Your SAUL pension is taxed in the same way as a salary.
When we first start paying your pension, we have to use a basic rate (BR) tax code. This means tax is taken at the basic rate until HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) send us your correct tax code.
HMRC sets your tax code based on all your income and personal circumstances, not just your SAUL pension. This is why your tax code may be different from what you expected.
If you have questions about your tax code or the tax being deducted, you'll need to contact HMRC directly.
When you contact HMRC, they'll ask for:
- Your National Insurance number
- Our tax reference: 948/91P
